DeSEA 1.5.sit UnstuffDL AMUG CD:Files:Unstuffers:Other Compression:DeSEA 1.5.sit 1.5 0 24K 6/20/94 DeSEA 1.5 - With the large number of multiple compression utilities, everyone has begun to create self-extracting archives (SEAs). While this is all-and-well, self-extracting archives add to the file sizes of files being transferred. While 10-20K for the self-extraction code isn’t much, it rapidly adds up over multiple transfers. In addition, the use of self-extraction features on small files can often cause the file to be larger than the original, uncompressed file. DeSEA removes the self-extraction code from a self-extracting archive. DeSEA is currently configured for the three most popular compression programs - Compact Pro, Disk Doubler (pre-4.0 and 4.0), StuffIt Classic/Deluxe, and NOW Compress.
UUPrepare 2.01.sit UnstuffDL AMUG CD:Files:Unstuffers:Other Compression:UUPrepare 2.01.sit 2.01 0 42K 6/13/94 UUPrepare 2.01 - A utility for those who use Usenet via America Online. UUPrepare is a program to make it easier for America Online users to download graphics files (and certain other files) from Internet (Usenet) newsgroups. These files are encoded through a method called uuencoding, which allows binary files (like pictures and applications) to travel through the Internet's ASCII-oriented mail system. Various programs, including a very good one called UULite, have been written to decode uuencoded files. However, these programs do not work on files downloaded from AOL, because the AOL software screws the files up considerably. What UUPrepare does is prepare files from AOL so that they can be decoded later.

The intent was to write a program for the Mac with a Mac "look and feel" that would generate a CPIO archive which could then be uncompacted on a Unix machine. The inspiration behind this was things like SunTAR and the fact that I wanted to do this at work for archiving lots of Mac source code in a Unix format. MacCPIO archives are made by adding one one file at a time chosen from the standard Mac "Open File" dialog box. As it's selected, each file is both added to the growing CPIO archive and added to a scrolling list of files. The main window's title always shows the current archive's name and size.
